Ledgher

My entry for *NinjaKato's adoptable giveaway. Since the advent of dA points, these kind of "draw it and it could be yours" type adoptables have pretty much died out. I usually like to design my own characters, but the Poison Joker caught my eye so I figured why not?

Of course, with a name like Poison Joker, my mind immediately went to the Joker of DC comic fame so I let that inspire Ledgher's background and name. (Heath Ledger being the late actor who played the Joker in The Dark Knight.) I started by drawing the lower image but realized that with its size, it would kill me and I wouldn't get it done in time, so I left it as a head shot and drew the above picture for the sake of having a full body shot. Didn't feel like posting them separately, though.

Ledgher used to be a plain, white wolf living out in the wild like wolves are supposed to. He ended up captured by some poachers and sold to this animal testing facility. It was mostly medical research but there was some cosmetic work done there too and Ledgher was lucky enough to be sent to that department. So he ended up dyed funky colors by someone who decided to get all artsy fartsy about it, hence the markings. The dye is intended to be permanent but it was only experimental so it might start to fade some day. Eventually Ledgher meets up with a couple of other canines, Kiess the wolf and Butcher Pete the Great Dane (Who has dissociative identity disorder, by the by. Also thumbs up to anyone who gets the name reference there.) and they all escape the facility together. Despite their quirks, they end up staying together as sort of a makeshift pack.

Ledgher's generally a calm and quiet guy. He's not terribly social and would be perfectly happy on his own except for the fact that his bright colors make hunting damn near impossible. Not that he's a particularly happy guy to begin with. He's actually kind of cold, but with a firey temper. His mind's a little worse for wear, having been in the testing facility for so long, because he can be a little erratic at times. Oh, also, whenever he gets excited or riled up, he goes batshit crazy like in the lower picture. Then his normally smooth fur bristles up and his eyes get all beady and his grin practically splits his face in two. Fun stuff.
